Old Street Rugby Players’ Bursary

Old Street Rugby Players’ Bursary

Club News

We’ve always believed money shouldn’t be a barrier to playing rugby and coupled with our commitment to being as inclusive a Club as possible, while engaging more people from our local community – we’re proud to be able to offer up the Old Street Rugby Players’ Bursary.

For anyone who lives in Hackney and is keen to play rugby but is unable to pay for kit for financial reasons, we’re offering to cover the costs of boots, gumshield, shirt, shorts and socks as well as subs to train with us at Haggerston Park and play matches at Hackney Marshes.

If you’re from Hackney, or the surrounding area, and interested in taking up rugby but have felt money is a barrier – please email us at info@oldstreetrugby.com or message us on Instagram or Twitter, to introduce yourself. We’ll then invite you to a training session, get to know you, and all being well bring you into the Club and our rugby family.

We are a community club, run by volunteers and paid for by members and for these reasons we are keen to support as many people as we can – but for these very same reasons don’t have bottomless pits of money. We are unsure what takeup will be, or what exactly people will be after – so all we ask in return if you think this could be for you is collaboration and commitment to make this Bursary as successful as it can possibly be.

We are aware we only offer men’s rugby, and therefore only males over the age of 17 are able to join in with our sessions – however, we can put anyone else in touch with other clubs who cater for junior and women’s rugby in the local area such as Hackney RFC, so you’re still able to explore your rugby journey.

If you’re from Hackney and want to play rugby – we hope this finds you well – and we’d be grateful to everyone else to help us spread the word.

For any further questions, please email us at info@oldstreetrugby.com or message us on Instagram or Twitter.

Many thanks to Teichmeister for the generous sponsorship of this bursary and enthusiasm to push it forward.
